Jay came across a clever water storage unit that was fitted to a tailgate. We weren't keen on the added weight on the back and the (for us) inconvenient location, so decided on the space between the storage box and the trailer tub. Here he is assembling the 100mm PVC pipe unit on the back of the storage box.
Hamish was acting as Site Supervisor for this project. Here there is serious conversation about the colour of the PVC cement :)
This is the unit in position from the driver's side. The tap is a 1/4" so we can fit a hose if we want. This idea has added around 40 litres to our capacity which will give us extra time in remote areas if needed.
The view from the passenger side.
Hi - my name is Troy Burley, I was the one who submitted the "bright idea" to "camper trailer australia" about the pipe water tank - I'm really glad you have been able to incorporate it into your planning - having plenty of clean water does give a mother peace of mind.
ReplyDeletegood work, Troy. I am making a similar one (with a Shrader pressurization valve, radiator drain for air vent, and two hose compatible outlets) with 6" PVC in a run of 5 different 8' lengths to provide a mildly pressured water storage tank atop my camper
DeleteBrilliant idea Troy and it will come in handy. I had a few dramas with leaks on the joins but seem to have it sorted now.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea mate, well done.
good you have it together now, but if you do it again - don't be frightened to put heaps of the blue glue on both surfaces, alot of it will ooze out- just wipe off the excess, it can be painted over or if left is will fade to clear. but if you don't get enough glue in the first place, it is hard to do again - and let each joint go off and cure before you stress or bend the pipe.
Deleteif you are still concerned instead of the blue glue, there is a green one designed for pvc pipes under pressure- which essentially is what you have created by making a tank.
