Kitchen Equipment and Utensils
Deciding on what to take has taken a huge chunk of my thoughts. We have a Drifta kitchen which has a fair amount of storage, but deciding on equipment for living on the road is quite different to having equipment for a weekend camping trip!- Wild Country cast iron camp oven set with 9qt oven, double jaffle iron, trivet, griddle, one high-sided frypan and one skillet, camp oven and griddle storage bags, lifting tool and oven mitt which came in a wooden storage box with handles.
- Friends very generously gave us their brand new 12qt camp oven which I gladly accepted (thanks Sarah and Jason!). I knew we could make do with the smaller one but a slightly larger one for roasts, etc. was high on the list. Having a second oven also means I can have a main oven and a dessert oven ;)
- We also ended up buying a Tefal Gourmet Anodised non-stick frying pan so Stookie can cook bacon and eggs the way he likes them ;)
- A Primus Deluxe 2 burner LP gas stove which easily fits in the space provided in the Drifta kitchen with room around to store things like the water filters and hoses.
- 2 x 1L and 1 x 2L Systema KlipIt storage containers. One of the 1L containers has the 500g butter blocks cut into 4 pieces (125g each....an amount used in many of my sweet recipes) and stored in the dairy compartment of the Evakool freezer.
- Six person melamine camp crockery set with mugs, bowls, dinner and bread and butter plates as well as a large salad bowl
- Chef's Toolbox 1L silicone mixing bowl, whisk and spatula
- Collapsible grater with coarse and fine blades
- 3 wooden spoons
- I've ended up with 7 sharp knives of varying sizes, one pair of scissors and a sharpening steel
- I took the cutlery we used in the house as I hate eating from small or plastic cutlery
- 2 vegetable peelers. One always gives up the ghost at the most inconvenient times ;)
- I've started with 3 silicon spatulas and will decide which to keep over the next month or so as I use them
- 3 springform pans. I decided on these over normal cake pans as they are easy to use and also store nicely inside each other
- 1 square cake pan. I couldn't bear to part with it and it is my most used pan at home!
- 1 loaf pan
- 1 pudding steamer
- 2 wire cooling racks
- 2 chopping boards plus an integrated chopping baord and collapsible colander
- 1 compact kitchen scales
- 500ml Pyrex jug, well wrapped
- a rolling pin
- one short and one long handled pair of metal tongs
- potato masher
- 2 different size and shape egg flips
- 1 set measuring spoons
- 1 large aluminium billy and a whistling kettle that fits in it
- 1 small saucepan with lid
- 1 silicon mitt and 1 silicon pot holder for the bench
- 1 gauze toaster
- 1 juicer
- My favourite garlic crusher!
- Egg rings have already been tossed out (I've always hated them, but Stookie insists!)
